We've added a Daily/Weekly special page to our website. http://www.alliedlutherie.com/weekly.htm For the most part it will be a "pick that set" page. But, Sometimes we may have more than one available. In that case we would mention that we have 3 or 5 similar sets available. Our first batch includes some Brazilan, Malaysian Blackwood, Walnut and a few out of the ordinary Indian Rosewood sets. Brian, Thanks, It looks great. Guys, if you havent tried Malaysian Blackwood, if you are looking for a unique and premium wood, it is super. I build almost exclusively classicals so I build with brazilian for most with EIR for the rest. Last year at the GAL conference there was a session in which builders guitars were played by good players and commented on by more experienced luthiers. This was done for steel string as well as classical. These sessions were cool in that for builders they were able to hear their guitars in comparison to other builders. In both the steel string and classical sessions the guitars that were malaysian blackwood stood out near the top of the pack. When I saw Greg Byers and Jeffrey Elliot buying Malaysian Blackwood sets I bought some (and won 2 more in the auction) for my classicals. I really like it and it is a good alternative for Brazilian as a premium wood. Malaysian Blackwood has a look that is similar to quality brazilian including some spiderwebbing possible but is actually an Ebony species that is somewhat closely related to Macassar Ebony. It is heavy (most ebony is) but the tone is awesome. Like most ebonies it can be difficult to bend but I have bent in on a fox style bender with no problem. I have bent alot that were worse. There are a few distinct color varieties of Malaysian Blackwood which is why it is great that Brian put it on the web so you can see just what the set looks like that you will be getting...Ed Dick of AcousticWoods started this on his website, BobC does it as well as Steve at Colonial and it really helps to be able to visualize what the back/side sets look like. While it is not cheap, it is very nice wood with a great sound that is still less than brazilian so if you are looking for a premium wood for a special guitar, I recommend it. |
